AMETEK SMP to present aerospace and medical metallurgical products at Titanium USA 2019

AMETEK SMP will be showcasing its range of high-quality master alloys, high purity titanium powders, titanium strip and tubing products at the forthcoming Titanium USA exhibition, taking place this year from 22 to 24 September at the Mobile Convention Center in Alabama. Five of the six AMETEK SMP businesses will showcase their specialist metal products at Booth no. 407.

Titanium USA has become an industry-leading event aimed primarily at titanium production and applications within the aerospace and medical sectors.

Taking centre stage on the booth will be AMETEK SMP’s master alloys produced by Reading Alloys for Titanium and Superalloys used in critical airframe and jet engine applications. The business manufactures over 60 standard alloy formulations including aluminum, vanadium, chromium, molybdenum and niobium as well as custom made products.

Reading Alloys will also present its range of medical grade titanium powders for orthopedic implant applications including hip, knee and shoulder replacement devices. The solid, angular and sponge morphology of the high purity titanium powders promotes osseointegration enabling the bone to grow into the implant and anchor it. Biocompatible titanium alloys include CP Ti, Ti 6A/4V and magnesium and sodium reduced titanium sponge.

Precision titanium tubes will feature on the booth, manufactured by the two AMETEK SMP businesses, Fine Tubes and Superior Tube. Seamless titanium tubes are used in critical medical equipment and implantable devices, such as heart valves, pacemakers, stents, orthopedics and instruments, as well as in aerospace engine and airframe applications. Titanium alloys include Ti grades 1, 2,5 and 9 and are manufactured up to 45mm (1 5/8 in) outer diameter.

A series of titanium strip and foil will further complement the product offering on show manufactured by Hamilton Precision Metals and AMETEK Wallingford. Titanium grades include 1, 2, 4, 5, 9 and 23 with foils cold rolled down to 1.5 microns thick. These thin precision strip products are used in implantable medical devices including implantable enclosures, CRM cardiac rhythm management and drug delivery systems.
